Cold sintering of the ceramic potassium sodium niobate, (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3, and influences on piezoelectric properties

Kosuke Tsuji et al.

Summary: In this study, Cold Sintering was applied to densify a Potassium-Sodium Niobate solid solution composition, resulting in ceramics with comparable dielectric and electrical properties as conventionally sintered KNN. TEM analysis revealed high density of line defects in grains and crystalline grain boundaries with faceted kinks, which limit the piezoelectric properties and hysteresis of the ceramics.

Phase coexistence and grain size effects on the functional properties of BaTiO3 ceramics

V. A. Lukacs et al.

Summary: The functional properties of BaTiO3 ceramics with different grain sizes (ranging from 75 nm to 2.25 μm) and polymorph coexistence around room temperature are studied. The research finds that there is a large temperature range of phase coexistence, but the extension of the coexistence domain does not show a significant size effect. However, the transition temperatures vary with grain size. The permittivity values of these ceramics are among the highest reported, with the typical maximum around 1 μm grain size.

Defect engineering boosts ferroelectricity in Pb0.9Ba0.1ZrO3 ceramic

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: Defect engineering plays a crucial role in modulating the performance of fermelectric ceramics. The presence of V''(pb)-V-o(..) defect complex significantly enhances the ferroelectricity, resistivity, and strain value. This work provides a new strategy for designing excellent fermelectric performance and improves the understanding of the nature of defects in bulk ferroelectrics.
