Thermal analysis applied to the development of nanostructured lipid carriers loading propranolol using quality-by-design strategies

Jessika L. Rocha et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) using thermal analysis for the delivery of propranolol (PPL) as a potential treatment for skin diseases. Preformulation studies and a Box-Behnken design were employed to optimize the production parameters and control the particle size and PdI of the NLC. The results showed a high degree of thermal interaction among the formulation components and an NLC entrapment efficiency above 98%. The optimized model successfully produced NLC within the desired particle size range and demonstrated potential for modulating PPL skin permeation.

Targeted clindamycin delivery to pilosebaceous units by chitosan or hyaluronic acid nanoparticles for improved topical treatment of acne vulgaris

Seila Tolentino et al.

Summary: Chitosan and hyaluronic acid nanoparticles were used to encapsulate clindamycin, showing positive effects on targeted drug delivery for acne-prone skin. Hyaluronic acid nanoparticles demonstrated higher drug deposition in pilosebaceous units, while both nanoparticles outperformed commercial formulations in targeted delivery to these structures.

Granules of finasteride and cyclodextrin obtained by hot-melt extrusion to target the hair follicles

Stephania G. B. Lima et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop topical granules of finasteride with follicular targeting potential. Fin inclusion complexes produced by nanospray-drying and rotary evaporation methods provided slow drug release and limited skin permeation, with nanospray-drying generating almost completely amorphous systems. Combining amorphous cyclodextrin complexes with a polymeric matrix by hot-melt extrusion achieved desirable follicular targeting.
