Investigating the controlling factors on salinity in soil, groundwater, and river water in a semi-arid agricultural watershed using SWAT-Salt

Pardis Hosseini et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of hydrologic factors and initial salt mineral concentrations in controlling salt ion concentrations in soils and groundwater. Factors such as evaporation, groundwater discharge, surface runoff, and initial salt mineral content play a significant role in determining salt concentrations in the Arkansas River.

Simulation of water and salt transport in the Kaidu River Irrigation District using the modified SWAT-Salt

Donglin Jiang et al.

Summary: This study developed a distributed water and salt transport model for the Kaidu River Irrigation District (KRID) in China, which accurately simulated the water and salt transport processes in the region. The results showed that winter irrigation contributed significantly to drainage and salt discharge, posing a risk of salinization in the regions near Bosten Lake. The modified model can be a useful tool for investigating and managing salinization in agricultural irrigation areas.

Multivariate polynomial regression modeling of total dissolved-solids in rangeland stormwater runoff in the Colorado River Basin

Sojung Kim et al.

Summary: This study developed a multivariate polynomial regression modeling framework to estimate total dissolved solids in stormwater runoff from rangelands in the Colorado River Basin. Modeling stormwater TDS runoff on rangeland sodic soils is challenging due to its complex correlation with various variables. The proposed framework achieved a high prediction accuracy by employing factor analysis and considering the nonlinear relationships between variables.
