Simple multiple reference frame for high-order solution of hovering rotors with and without ground effect

Paulo A. S. F. Silva et al.

Summary: In this study, the aerodynamic performance of the Caradonna and Tung and S-76 helicopters in hover was investigated using a new numerical method. The predictions were compared with experimental data, showing good agreement. The simplified concept of multiple reference frame technique was utilized to define the frame of reference at the solver level, avoiding complex mesh interface handling.

Assessment of Low-Dissipative Shock-Capturing Schemes for the Compressible Taylor-Green Vortex

David J. Lusher et al.

Summary: Recent advances in computational power have made implicit large-eddy simulation and direct numerical simulation feasible tools for investigating the underlying physical mechanisms involved in interactions between shock waves and turbulence. Low-dissipative TENO schemes are found to offer substantial improvements in resolution over established WENO methods for a comparable computational cost in high-speed flows.

CWENO Finite-Volume Interface Capturing Schemes for Multicomponent Flows Using Unstructured Meshes

Panagiotis Tsoutsanis et al.

Summary: This paper extends the application of high-order finite-volume central-weighted essentially non-oscillatory (CWENO) schemes to multicomponent flows using the interface capturing paradigm, achieving high-order accurate and oscillation free solutions. The schemes are compact and perform well, but have limitations within the present interface-capturing implementation.

Summary: This paper reviews the recent paradigm shift in the construction and analysis of high order Discontinuous Galerkin methods for hyperbolic or mixed hyperbolic-parabolic partial differential equations in computational physics. It discusses the successful applications and challenges of DG methods, especially in problems with advection dominated properties, and presents recent ideas to improve the robustness of the scheme and its connections to other numerical methods.
