Effect of HF and NaOH etching on the composition and structure of SiOC ceramics

Kedong Xia et al.

Summary: Porous SiOC ceramics were prepared using TEOS and VTES as precursors and etched with HF and NaOH solutions. The pyrolysis temperature significantly affects the carbon structure, with different types of pores formed after HF and NaOH etching. NaOH etching is more effective in increasing specific surface area, resulting in carbon-enriched SiOC ceramics.

A controllable preparation of two-dimensional cobalt oxalate-based nanostructured sheets for electrochemical energy storage

Fancheng Sun et al.

Summary: Well-defined two-dimensional cobalt oxalate nanosheets with high specific surface areas and efficient ion and electron transport have been synthesized. The synthesis process allows for the control of the nanosheet morphology without the use of templates or capping agents. The Co3O4/CoC2O4 composites fabricated from these nanosheets exhibit porous surfaces and show improved kinetics and cycling stability in the electrochemistry process.

Pillared-layer Ni-MOF nanosheets anchored on Ti3C2 MXene for enhanced electrochemical energy storage

Shasha Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, highly conductive and cyclic-stable Ti3C2 MXene@Ni-MOF composites were reported, where the MXene immobilized the Ni-MOF nanosheets, enabling fast charge transfer and preventing nanosheet aggregation. The strong interaction between the organic ligands of Ni-MOF and surface functional groups of MXene also enhanced ion transport rate and increased the layer spacing of MXene, resulting in excellent capacitance performance and cycling stability of the composite material.

The synthesis of MOF derived carbon and its application in water treatment

Jiani Ding et al.

Summary: In recent years, carbon materials have been widely used for water treatment due to the increasing concerns about water pollution. Among them, metal-organic framework (MOF) derived carbon has gained popularity due to its high specific surface area, large pore volume, and excellent chemical stability. This review presents the latest developments in using MOFs as templates and precursors for various carbon materials, such as porous carbon, nanocarbon, and graphene, which are pyrolyzed at different temperatures. The article also highlights the future trends and perspectives on their application in water treatment.

Highly Efficient Electrocatalytic Uranium Extraction from Seawater over an Amidoxime-Functionalized In-N-C Catalyst

Xiaolu Liu et al.

Summary: Seawater contains uranium at a concentration of approximately 3.3 ppb, making it a valuable and sustainable nuclear fuel source. This study developed an adsorption-electrocatalytic platform for extracting uranium from seawater using atomically dispersed indium anchored on hollow nitrogen-doped carbon capsules functionalized with flexible amidoxime moieties. The platform showed excellent uranyl capture properties and high selectivity for uranium extraction over vanadium in seawater. X-ray absorption spectroscopy and in situ Raman results provided detailed insights into the molecular mechanism of uranium extraction. This work contributes to the growing suite of technologies for harvesting valuable metals from the earth's oceans.
