Effects of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) and HVO/biodiesel blends on the physicochemical and toxicological properties of emissions from an off-road heavy-duty diesel engine

Summary: This study investigates the emissions and potential health effects of using hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) and HVO blended with biodiesel as fuels for a legacy off-road diesel engine. The results show that HVO significantly reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared to diesel, while biodiesel blends increase NOx emissions. Both pure HVO and biodiesel blends show reductions in particulate matter (PM) and solid particle numbers. Additionally, the use of biofuels decreases oxidative stress and cytotoxicity in PM emissions.

Comparison of real driving emissions from Euro VI buses with diesel and compressed natural gas fuels

Summary: Public transport buses in big cities are being expanded with a focus on cleaner fleets to reduce emissions. Research compared emissions from two Euro VI-C buses, one diesel-fueled and one compressed natural gas-fueled in Madrid. Results showed that CNG bus had double the THC emissions of the Diesel bus, while the Diesel bus had slightly higher NOx emissions, indicating traffic plays a significant role in pollutant concentrations.
