Cobalt promoted molybdenum carbide supported on γ-alumina as an efficient catalyst for hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene

Shengnan Yue et al.

Summary: This study prepared cobalt-promoted molybdenum carbide supported on mesoporous alumina catalysts and systematically investigated the effects of cobalt on the physicochemical properties and hydrodesulfurization (HDS) performance of the catalysts. The results showed that suitable cobalt addition reduced the interaction between molybdenum species and alumina support, allowing for better carbonization of molybdenum. The introduction of cobalt made the molybdenum species electron-rich, resulting in easier attack on the C-S bond. The Co0.3Mo2C/MA catalyst exhibited significant sulfur removal efficiency and effective direct desulfurization selectivity.

Summary: A new composite material named PMA(x) @MAF-6 was prepared by combining metal-azolate framework (MAF-6) with phosphomolybdic acid (PMA). Mo2N, dispersed on porous carbon without external nitrogen sources, was obtained by carbonization of PMA(x)@MAF-6. The catalyst Mo2N@C showed remarkable performance in oxidative desulfurization (ODS) with H2O2 as an oxidant, with high turnover frequency and low activation energy.

Development of Functional Materials via Polymer Encapsulation into Metal-Organic Frameworks

Nobuhiko Hosono et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) composed of metal ions and organic ligands have versatile porous structures with controllable sizes and designable surface functionalities. Encapsulating polymer chains into MOF pores disrupts the natural coiling of polymer chains and provides a platform for studying the properties of single polymer chains. The formation of nanocomposites between MOFs and polymers can accomplish several nanoscale functions, while the use of regulated nanochannels in MOFs for polymer encapsulation allows for the separation of polymers based on marginal structural differences.
