3D printing of silk microparticle reinforced polycaprolactone scaffolds for tissue engineering applications

Cian Vyas et al.

Summary: Polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds have been enhanced by incorporating Bombyx mori silk microparticles (SMP) as a reinforcing agent, showing improved mechanical properties and interconnectivity. The addition of SMP increased shear thinning and storage modulus, while enhancing cell behaviors such as proliferation and migration. The study demonstrates the potential suitability of SMP-reinforced PCL scaffolds for bone tissue engineering applications.
