Dispersing silica fume in cementitious materials by silane copolymerized polycarboxylate Superplasticizer: On the role of dispersion effectiveness as a function of silane concentration

Jian Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a commonly used vinyl-based silane coupling agent, MAPTMS, was designed to co-polymerize with PCE in order to improve the compatibility of PCE with SF. The results showed that SC-PCE prepared at lower MAPTMS concentrations exhibited better SF dispersion capability compared to the control PCE. However, when the mole substitution of AA by MAPTMS exceeded 40%, SC-PCE behaved like polymeric silane silica sol and gelled over time.

Highly compressible and hydrophobic anisotropic cellulose-based aerogel fabricated by bidirectional freeze-drying for selective oil absorption

Peiyuan Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, silylated TEMPO-oxidized nanofibers/polyvinyl alcohol aerogels (STPA) with high reusability and excellent mechanical properties were fabricated. Two unique structural aerogels were obtained by adjusting the concentration of methyltrimethoxysilane using a bidirectional freezing technique. The STPA exhibited ultralightness, hydrophobicity, and compressibility, as well as high adsorption capacity for various types of organic solvents. It also showed an excellent oil recovery rate and remained highly absorbent after multiple cycles of absorption-squeezing.
