Characterizing Mode Anharmonicity and Huang-Rhys Factors Using Models of Femtosecond Coherence Spectra

Matthew S. Barclay et al.

Summary: In this study, the measured spectra of two laser dyes are fitted to microscopic models of femtosecond coherence spectra (FCS) arising from molecular vibrations. Coherent quantum-beat signals are classified as fundamentals or overtones and their Huang-Rhys factors and anharmonicity values are quantified. This work solidifies the use of FCS for analysis of coherent quantum beats arising from molecular vibrations.

Photoexcitation of oxazine 170 dye in aqueous solution: TD-DFT study

Victor V. Kostjukov

Summary: The study found that the long-range corrected omega B97XD functional provided the best agreement with the experimental results in the vibronic absorption spectra of OX170 dye. However, the intensity of the shoulder in the calculated spectrum was lower than in the experimental one, indicating a discrepancy in the results. Additionally, explicit assignment of strongly bound water molecules to the dye led to a redshift of the calculated spectrum of approximately 15 nm as a whole, affecting its overall shape.

Exciton-phonon coupling strength in single-layer MoSe2 at room temperature

Donghai Li et al.

Summary: Research on exciton-phonon coupling in single-layer transition metal dichalcogenides has shown stronger coupling compared to most other inorganic semiconductor nanostructures. Utilizing two-dimensional micro-spectroscopy, the study provides a unique tool to measure the characteristics of exciton-phonon coupling and design-relevant parameters for the development of optoelectronic devices.

Understanding radiative transitions and relaxation pathways in plexcitons

Daniel Finkelstein-Shapiro et al.

Summary: This study reveals that while the metal destroys optical coherence, the molecular aggregate coupled to surface processes significantly contributes to energy dissipation. Two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy with theoretical modeling is used to assign different relaxation processes to either molecules or metal nanoparticles. The dynamics beyond a few femtoseconds must be considered in the language of hot electron distributions instead of the accepted lower and upper polariton branches, establishing a framework for further understanding.

Fluorescence-Detected Pump-Probe Spectroscopy

Pavel Maly et al.

Summary: Fluorescence-detected pump-probe (F-PP) spectroscopy is a new approach to transient spectroscopy that overcomes limitations of traditional methods, providing background-free detection and unique extraction of excited-state dynamics under certain conditions. Despite incoherent detection, F-PP offers time resolution independent of fluorescence lifetime and is broadly applicable to chemical systems in different environments and spectral regimes.

Characterization of the ultrafast spectral diffusion and vibronic coherence of TIPS-pentacene using 2D electronic spectroscopy

Duc Viet Le et al.

Summary: In this study, the coupling between the electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom of TIPS-pentacene (TIPS-Pn) was further investigated by measuring and analyzing its 2D electronic spectra in solutions. Significant vibronic coupling with the TIPS-Pn ring-breathing vibrational mode was observed, along with the detection of two spectral diffusion lifetimes and couplings with another vibrational mode. The experimental results were successfully described using the displaced harmonic oscillator model, with a Huang-Rhys factor estimated for the ring-breathing vibrational mode.

Relations between absorption, emission, and excited state chemical potentials from nanocrystal 2D spectra

Jisu Ryu et al.

Summary: Femtosecond two-dimensional (2D) spectroscopy is used to separate size dispersion broadening in quantum-confined nanomaterials, allowing determination of thermodynamic differences and maximum photovoltage. The study shows how single-molecule generalized Einstein relations can be applied to average single-molecule linewidth and determine key parameters between absorption and emission spectra.
