Investigating the role of oxygen vacancies and basic site density in tuning methanol selectivity over Cu/CeO2 catalyst during CO2 hydrogenation

Rajan Singh et al.

Summary: The study focuses on CeO2, ZrO2 and ZnO supported Cu catalysts, with Cu/ZnO showing the highest CO2 conversion rate and Cu/CeO2 demonstrating over 90% methanol selectivity at lower temperatures. The high methanol selectivity of Cu/CeO2 catalyst may be attributed to its excess surface oxygen vacancies and higher basic site density.

Asymmetric Synthesis of N-Substituted α-Amino Esters from α-Ketoesters via Imine Reductase-Catalyzed Reductive Amination

Peiyuan Yao et al.

Summary: In this study, a new stereoselective biocatalytic synthesis method for N-substituted alpha-amino esters was reported, utilizing diverse metagenomic imine reductases. Both enantiomers of the target products were synthesized with high conversion and excellent enantioselectivity under mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, over 20 different preparative scale transformations were performed, demonstrating the scalability of this system.

In situ manipulation of the active Au-TiO2 interface with atomic precision during CO oxidation

Wentao Yuan et al.

Summary: The interface between metal catalyst and support is critical in heterogeneous catalysis. The study found that the atomic structure of the Au-TiO2 interface depends on the epitaxial rotation of gold nanoparticles on a TiO2 surface during CO oxidation. Manipulation of the active Au-TiO2 interface was achieved in situ by changing gas and temperature, suggesting real-time design of catalytic interface in operating conditions may be possible.

The Sabatier Principle in Electrocatalysis: Basics, Limitations, and Extensions

Hideshi Ooka et al.

Summary: The Sabatier principle, which emphasizes on the optimal binding energy between catalyst and reactant, has evolved from an empirical principle to a quantitative predictive tool thanks to the success of density functional theory (DFT). Understanding and overcoming the limitations and challenges of the Sabatier principle in its current thermodynamic context is crucial for the development of next-generation electrocatalysts.

Facet-Dependent Oxidative Strong Metal-Support Interactions of Palladium-TiO2 Determined by In Situ Transmission Electron Microscopy

Min Tang et al.

Summary: The study reports a facet-dependent SMSI of Pd-TiO2 in oxygen, revealing the influence of the variable surface structure of TiO2 support on the encapsulation of Pd NPs. The discovery provides direct evidence of the important role of support surface structure in SMSI and offers a new approach to tune the interaction between metal NPs and the support as well as catalytic activity.

Highly selective Ru/HBEA catalyst for the direct amination of fatty alcohols with ammonia

L. Fang et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized primary amines from long-chain fatty alcohols and ammonia using supported ruthenium catalysts on different acid supports. The catalyst Ru/HBEA (Si/Al = 25) showed the best performance with high selectivity attributed to the presence of medium strength acidity centers near the ruthenium nanoparticles. In a continuous reaction, the catalyst maintained a stable 92% selectivity.
