Borosilicate zeolite enriched in defect boron sites boosting the low-temperature oxidative dehydrogenation of propane

Bin Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, an incompletely crystallized borosilicate zeolite catalyst exhibited extraordinary performance in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. The boron species were found to be anchored to the zeolite matrix in the form of open coordination and formed hydrogen bonds with defective boron species, preventing excessive leaching of boron. The active center for catalyzing the reaction was identified as the B-OH groups in aggregated BOx species that formed hydrogen bonds with adjacent Si-OH groups.

Dynamic Self-Dispersion of Aggregated Boron Clusters into Stable Oligomeric Boron Species on MFI Zeolite Nanosheets under Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane

Bin Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, self-pillared boron-containing MFI zeolite nanosheets were synthesized and exhibited enhanced catalytic performance and stability in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane process. The unique characteristics of the nanosheets allowed for the dynamic dispersion of highly active boron clusters, resulting in an increased number of stable and dispersed boron species.

Multiple Promotional Effects of Vanadium Oxide on Boron Nitride for Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane

Xiao Jiang et al.

Summary: We report a catalyst with vanadium oxide dispersed onto hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), which catalyzes the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODHP) via the Eley-Rideal mechanism and the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism. The results show that loading 0.5wt% V significantly improves the yield of light alkene. Adding an appropriate concentration of nitric oxide further enhances the catalytic performance. This provides a potential strategy for developing efficient h-BN-based catalysts for ODHP by coupling gas-phase and surface reactions.

It's a Gas: Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane over Boron Nitride Catalysts

Peter Kraus et al.

Summary: The study suggests that boron nitride catalysts exhibit high selectivity in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane, which can be modeled reasonably well by a gas-phase conversion mechanism. Water cofeed leads to increased conversion of propane, while dilution of the catalytic bed and variations in the C3H8/O-2 ratio also affect the selectivities of minor species in gas-phase reactions.

Isolated boron in zeolite for oxidative dehydrogenation of propane

Hang Zhou et al.

Summary: Isolated boron in a zeolite framework without B-O-B oligomers exhibits high activity and selectivity for oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODHP). The boron-silicon bonding structure hinders boron leaching in a humid atmosphere, enhancing catalyst durability. The -B[OH center dot center dot center dot O(H)-Si](2) structure in borosilicate zeolite serves as the active center for activating oxygen and carbon-hydrogen bonds to catalyze ODHP.

Understanding the Unique Antioxidation Property of Boron-Based Catalysts during Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Alkanes

Ziyi Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of boron-based catalysts in inhibiting alkane deep-oxidation through density functional theory calculations and electronic and geometric structure analysis. It reveals that surface boron sites can eliminate alkoxyl groups nearby, leading to exceptional inhibition of alkane deep-oxidation. Furthermore, the oxophilicity of boron is found to be crucial in determining the low deep-oxidation of alkanes.

Oxidative dehydrogenation of light alkanes to olefins on metal-free catalysts

Jian Sheng et al.

Summary: Metal-free boron- and carbon-based catalysts have shown great potential in the oxidative dehydrogenation of light alkanes, with boron-based catalysts demonstrating superior selectivity towards olefins and excellent stability, while carbon-based catalysts display impressive behavior due to surface oxygen-containing functional groups. This review compares the preparation methods, performance, and mechanistic issues of boron- and carbon-based catalysts, discussing active sites, reaction mechanisms, and potential issues in metal-free ODH catalytic systems.
