Femoral Neck Notching in Dual Mobility Implants: Is This a Reason for Concern?

Summary: This study identified femoral notching in 3.5% of cases with dual mobility total hip arthroplasty, mainly associated with modular cylindrospheric cobalt-chromium DM implants. The notches were mostly located in the anterior and superior part of the prosthetic femoral neck. These notches did not result in stem fracture or require revision surgery so far.

Is there a problem with modular dual mobility acetabular components in revision total hip arthroplasty at mid-term follow-up?

Summary: The study evaluated the outcomes of using MDM components in revision THA with a mean follow-up of over five years. It found a higher rate of dislocation than previously reported, with the size of the outer bearing being related to the risk of dislocation. There was a low rate of aseptic acetabular loosening observed in the study. Further research and longer follow-up are needed to assess the performance of this MDM component and other designs.
