Arsenic contamination of groundwater: A global synopsis with focus on the Indian Peninsula

E. Shaji et al.

Summary: Groundwater contamination by arsenic is a growing global issue, with over 2.3 billion people at risk worldwide, predominantly in Asia. Arsenic poisoning can lead to severe health issues, including cancer and heart diseases. Effective remedial measures are necessary to address this problem.

Different mechanisms of arsenic related signaling in cellular proliferation, apoptosis and neo-plastic transformation

Nandita Medda et al.

Summary: Arsenic, a toxic heavy metal, is associated with various health issues and used in chemotherapy for acute promyelocytic leukemia. The balance between cellular proliferation and apoptosis influences arsenic's transformation rate. Arsenic toxicity is propagated via ROS-induced stress and signaling pathways impacting cellular outcomes.

Regulation of Intestinal UDP-Glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 by the Farnesoid X Receptor Agonist Obeticholic Acid Is Controlled by Constitutive Androstane Receptor through Intestinal Maturation

Andre A. Weber et al.

Summary: UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1 is responsible for conjugating serum bilirubin in the body, but delays in the development of the UGT1A1 gene can lead to an accumulation of bilirubin in newborns. Treatment with obeticholic acid (OCA) in neonatal humanized UGT1 (hUGT1) mice significantly reduces levels of total serum bilirubin. This reduction is primarily driven by the induction of intestinal UGT1A1 through activation of the CAR nuclear receptor, rather than FXR.
