Early-Life Pb Exposure Might Exert Synapse-Toxic Effects Via Inhibiting Synapse-Associated Membrane Protein 2 (VAMP2) Mediated by Upregulation of miR-34b

Changhao Yang et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the mechanisms of developmental neuropsychiatric dysfunctions induced by early-life lead (Pb) exposure. The results show that miR-34b is highly associated with Pb neurotoxicity and neuropsychiatric disorders by regulating synapse function through inhibiting synapse-associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2). Furthermore, blocking miR-34b can mitigate the effects of Pb on VAMP2.

SIRT1 modifies DNA methylation linked to synaptic deficits induced by Pb in vitro and in vivo

Ruike Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the protective role of SIRT1 in neurotoxicity induced by lead (Pb) exposure. The results demonstrate that SIRT1 regulates DNA methylation and the expression of synaptic plasticity-related genes. Furthermore, treatment with SIRT1 agonists ameliorates the effects of Pb exposure on gene expression and pathological damage in the hippocampus.

Summary: This study revealed the impact of lead on the expression of microRNAs in the testes of mice through RNA sequencing. The researchers established a miRNA-mRNA co-expression network and a competing endogenous RNA network, and confirmed the expression of key genes involved in these regulatory networks. These findings provide insights into the mechanism of lead-induced reproductive toxicity through microRNAs.

Lead (Pb) exposure and heart failure risk

Zihan Chen et al.

Summary: Lead, a heavy metal widely used in industry, is also a common environmental contaminant with toxicological consequences on many species. It adversely affects the cardiovascular system in humans, potentially leading to heart failure, pressure overload, arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia, and cardiotoxicity. Research indicates that lead exposure may play a significant role in the occurrence and development of heart failure.

Lead (Pb) exposure is associated with changes in the expression levels of circulating miRNAS (miR-155, miR-126) in Mexican women

Angeles C. Ochoa-Martinez et al.

Summary: The study found that women highly exposed to lead showed overexpression of miR-155 and a significant positive correlation with blood lead levels. Additionally, downregulation of miR-126 expression levels was observed in highly exposed women, showing a significant negative correlation with blood lead levels. These epigenetic changes detected may represent a connection between health illnesses and lead exposure.
