Investigation of Solution Rheology in Electrospinning of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Prajesh Nayak et al.

Summary: Formation of nano-micron size fibers of UHMWPE can be achieved via high temperature electrospinning. The solution properties and entanglement concentration play crucial roles in determining the morphology of the electrospun fibers. SEM analysis showed that defect-free smooth fibers are obtained when the solution concentration is around 1.5-2.5 times the entanglement concentration.

Fabrication of well-miscible and highly enhanced polyethylene/ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene blends by facile construction of interfacial intermolecular entanglement

Buyong Wu et al.

Summary: In this work, a blend of polyethylene and ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene was fabricated through a melt blending process, with the incorporation of UHMWPE with low molecular weight to enhance interfacial intermolecular entanglement. The blend exhibited improved molecular entanglement density and viscoelasticity, leading to enhanced mechanical properties with increased tensile strength and impact strength. Furthermore, the blend was utilized to manufacture pipes with significantly improved tensile strength and internal pressure resistance, showing promising application potentials.

The effect of shrinkage on the structure and properties of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers with different concentration

Hongqiu Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that interface variation in UHMWPE gel fiber leads to different shrinkage in different directions, with shrinkage caused by the crystallization of UHMWPE chains under interface tension. UHMWPE gel fibers prepared with different solution concentrations have varying chain entanglement points density, affecting the arrangement of UHMWPE chains.
