Quasi-static penetration property of 3D printed woven-like ramie fiber reinforced biocomposites

Ping Cheng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the penetration behaviors of 3D printed biocomposites with continuous ramie yarn reinforcement. The results showed that the penetration property and energy absorption capability of the samples increased with decreasing support span to indenter diameter ratios (SIR) and with the addition of continuous ramie yarn. The structure-penetration property relationship of the 3D printed woven-like architectured biocomposite was revealed through the analysis of multiscale failure features and penetration damage mechanisms.

Electrostatic Self-Assembly of Composite Nanofiber Yarn

Wei-Chih Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method of manufacturing nanofiber yarns (NFY) using a simplified dry electrospinning system to produce self-assembling functional NFY capable of conducting electrical charge. By enhancing the conductivity and allowing fibers to align and grow in a twisted pattern, the longer the electrospinning continues, the longer and more uniformly twisted the NFY becomes. Additionally, this process reduces the electric field required for NFY production.

Compressive behaviors of 3D printed polypropylene-based composites at low and high strain rates

Kui Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that by controlling the extrusion temperature and layer thickness of 3D-printed PP-based composites, the size and porosity of voids generated during processing can be effectively reduced, thereby improving the mechanical properties of the parts. Under dynamic compression loading, the apparent strength and modulus of the materials were significantly higher.

Effect of printing temperature on microstructure, thermal behavior and tensile properties of 3D printed nylon using fused deposition modeling

Sofiane Guessasma et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the thermal conditions for the printability of nylon using FDM. Dog-bone like specimens were used to assess the tensile performance of 3D printed nylon under different printing temperatures. Both SEM and X-ray micro-tomography analysis provided insights into the microstructural arrangement of nylon filaments, while finite element computation was employed to study deformation mechanisms and process-induced porosity. The results revealed a narrow temperature range for printability of nylon and highlighted the significant influence of printing temperature on various properties.
