Identification of the viscoelastic properties of soft materials using a convenient dynamic indentation system and procedure

Hasan Koruk et al.

Summary: This paper presents a convenient dynamic indentation system and procedure for identifying the viscoelastic properties of soft materials. The procedure involves applying force to a rigid sphere at the soft-material interface and recording the sphere's dynamic response. An analytical model predicts the sphere's response based on the shear modulus, density, and damping properties of the soft sample. By matching the measured and predicted displacements of the sphere, the shear modulus of the soft sample is determined. The viscous damping ratio is identified by matching the measured and predicted oscillation amplitudes. Experimental validations are conducted to verify the system and procedure.

Influence of miscible and immiscible sequences of poly(D-lactide) copolymers on the competition of stereocomplex- and homo-crystallization in poly(L-lactide) blends

Wenze Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the crystallization behaviors of stereocomplex and homochiral crystals by blending high molecular weight PLLA with low molecular weight PDLA and its diblock copolymers. It was found that the introduction of different sequences can inhibit the crystallization kinetics of the blends, with the formation of sc crystalites prior to hc ones. Additionally, micro phase separation between PLA and PDMS segments was observed to weaken the competition between sc and hc crystals.
