Effect of off-stoichiometric composition on half-metallic character of Co2Fe(Ga,Ge) investigated using saturation magnetization and giant magnetoresistance effect

Yuki Chikaso et al.

Summary: The dependence of saturation magnetization and magnetoresistance ratio on Ge-composition (gamma) in Co2Fe(Ga, Ge) (CFGG) thin films and CFGG-based current-perpendicular-to-plane giant magnetoresistance (CPP-GMR) devices was investigated. Theoretical calculations showed that stoichiometric CFGG with gamma = 0.56 has the highest spin polarization and half-metallic nature. In contrast, the MR ratio of CPP-GMR devices based on CFGG increased with increasing gamma, reaching a maximum at gamma = 1.10 and then rapidly decreasing.

First-principles disordered local-moment study on temperature dependence of spin polarization in Co2Fe(Ga0.5Ge0.5) Heusler alloy

Summary: The study found that modulation of the Fermi level position in half-metallic alloys can improve the temperature dependence of spin polarization, but alloys rich in Co or Fe show lower spin polarization compared to stoichiometric alloys.
