Contemporary Oyster Reef Restoration: Responding to a Changing World

Alice H. Howie et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest globally in restoring oyster reefs to reinstate key ecosystem services, but significant and ongoing environmental changes since the peak of oysters in the 1800s necessitate novel approaches to restoration. Key design considerations for future restoration projects include selecting suitable sites, substrates, oyster species, and genotypes based on their present and future suitability in supporting oyster survival and matching specific ecosystem service delivery goals.
