Carbon Dots in Biomedicine: A Review

Peide Zhu et al.

Summary: Despite the rapid development of science and technology, the effective treatment of cancer still poses a threat to human life and health. Carbon dots (CDs) have been found to have wide absorption, excellent biocompatibility, diverse imaging characteristics, and photostability, making them suitable for various applications in sensing, imaging, and drug/gene transportation. Additionally, researchers have discovered that CDs can act as effective photosensitizers, providing photothermal and photodynamic therapy for cancer. This review outlines the imaging analysis of CDs in cancer cells and discusses the design strategies and latest research progress in phototherapy, as well as the challenges faced in clinical applications.

Study of optically stimulated luminescence and calculation of trapping parameters of K2Ca2(SO4)3:Eu nanophosphor

Nandkumar T. Mandlik et al.

Summary: K2Ca2(SO4)(3):Eu nanophosphor was synthesized using chemical coprecipitation and annealed at 600 degrees C to exhibit a cubic structure with potential for high dose measurements. The nanophosphor showed a TL peak at 160 degrees C and CW-OSL response was maximal at the same temperature. The OSL response was linear up to 1 kGy and saturated with higher gamma doses, making it a suitable candidate for dosimetry applications.

Synthesis of nanocrystalline Al2O3:C by thermal plasma reactor for radiation dosimetry applications

Nandkumar T. Mandlik et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon-doped Al2O3 nanophosphor was successfully synthesized by a novel thermal plasma method, showing highly crystalline nanoparticles of gamma-Al2O3 in the size range of 10-100 nm. The material containing 10 wt% carbon exhibited the maximum TL intensity over a wide range of doses when irradiated with gamma rays and electron beam.

Thermoluminescence in Eu doped NaLi2PO4TLD nanophosphor: Effect of particle size on TL characteristics

Martina Saran et al.

Summary: The study revealed that TL sensitivity and glow curve structure of the material depend on particle size, with TL glow curves mainly consisting of four peaks in specific temperature ranges. The shifts in TL glow peak temperatures and changes in glow curve structures can be attributed to reorganization of impurity levels and widening of the band gap with decreasing particle size.
