A novel interferometric method for simultaneous measurement of film thickness and film interface temperature for a horizontal tube falling film evaporator for MED systems

Akhil Krishnan Maliackal et al.

Summary: Horizontal tube falling film evaporation is widely used in multi-effect desalination applications. This study introduces a novel interferometric method to calculate film interface temperature and a shadowgraph approach to estimate film thickness. The experimental results show that this method has good reproducibility and measurement capability.

Transient Measurement of Temperature Distribution Using Thin Film Thermocouple Array on Turbine Blade Surface

Zhonglin Ji et al.

Summary: Smart sensors are essential for achieving a more intelligent aero-engine, with a thin-film sensor array fabricated on the turbine blade surface using MEMS technology. The PtRh/Pt thin film thermocouples exhibit good stability and consistency on the blade surface, able to capture temperature distribution and respond quickly to dynamic heat flow.

Measurement of transient temperature distribution behavior of a planar solid oxide fuel cell: Effect of instantaneous switching of power generation and direct internal reforming

Shinichi Sugihara et al.

Summary: Experimental investigation was conducted on the transient temperature distribution behavior of a planar, co-flow type anode supported solid oxide fuel cell at different furnace temperatures. The results show that sudden changes in current density or reforming reaction rate lead to clear increases or decreases in local temperature. The response of temperature distribution to changes in current density is faster, and the new steady state is first achieved near the flow inlet.

Real-time tool wear monitoring using thin-film thermocouple

Tianxiang Li et al.

Summary: This paper presents a smart cutting tool embedded with thin-film thermocouple for real-time temperature monitoring in harsh cutting environments. The tool showed good sensitivity, dynamic response, and functional validity, and was able to reflect the progression of tool wear based on cutting temperature. The devised smart tool is useful for determining optimum cutting parameters and extending tool life.

On the grain size-thickness correlation for thin films

Altangerel Dulmaa et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis shows the relationship between grain size and film thickness follows a power law, with growth exponent depending on homologous temperature. Above a certain temperature, restructuring mechanisms affect grain size during film growth. Difference in growth exponent behaviors is observed for Al and Cu thin films under the influence of impurities.

Evaluation of thickness-dependent temperature coefficient in a thin film thermocouple and its in vivo test using a porcine model

Yangkyu Park et al.

Summary: Six types of micromachined thin film thermocouples with different thickness values were fabricated and tested for high sensitivity. The performance of each thermocouple was evaluated by measuring thermal electric motive force and temperature. An in vivo experiment in an animal model was conducted to evaluate device performance.
