Ferulic acid derivatives with piperazine moiety as potential antiviral agents

Ting Yuan et al.

Summary: By synthesizing and screening, novel ferulic acid derivatives were discovered to have excellent antiviral activity, among which compound E2 exhibited remarkable curative activities against tobacco mosaic virus and cucumber mosaic virus. The outstanding antiviral activity of compound E2 was achieved by increasing host photosynthesis, making it a potential lead structure for the development of new antiviral agents.

Comparison of PsbQ and Psb27 in photosystem II provides insight into their roles

Christopher J. Gisriel et al.

Summary: Photosystem II (PSII) catalyzes the oxidation of water and contains a high-valent inorganic Mn4CaOx cluster called the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). Extrinsic subunits PsbQ and Psb27 have similar structures and binding sites, but likely serve different roles. PsbQ homologs show high evolutionary divergence, while Psb27 homologs exhibit less divergence. These findings provide insights into the functions and evolution of PsbQ and Psb27, and highlight an unusual example of proteins with similar structures and binding sites that likely have different roles.

The coupled photocycle of phenyl-p-benzoquinone and Light-Harvesting Complex II (LHCII) within the biohybrid system

Magdalena Lazicka et al.

Summary: The combination of trimeric form of the light-harvesting complex II, a porous graphite electrode, and the application of a quinone derivative allows the construction of a new type of biohybrid photoactive system. The photocurrent generated is directly dependent on the quenching of Chl fluorescence. The system exhibits stability and high photocurrent generation.

Pityriacitrin marine alkaloids as novel antiviral and anti-phytopathogenic-fungus agents

Tie-Nan Wang et al.

Summary: Plant diseases have been a major issue in agricultural production, impacting crop growth and yields. Marine natural products, specifically pityriacitrin alkaloids, were synthesized and evaluated for their antiviral and fungicidal activities. Compounds 3a and 5f showed promising results as new candidates for antiviral and fungicidal research, providing a new avenue for the development of novel inhibitors against plant viruses and fungi.
