Contribution of pre-storage melatonin application to chilling tolerance of some mango fruit cultivars and relationship with polyamines metabolism and γ-aminobutyric acid shunt pathway

Renu Bhardwaj et al.

Summary: Pre-storage application of 100 mu M melatonin was found to enhance chilling tolerance in 'Tangra' mangoes by increasing endogenous polyamines and GABA accumulation, along with related enzyme activities. However, limited effectiveness of melatonin treatment in alleviating chilling injury in 'Chaunsa' mangoes may be attributed to higher polyamines accumulation and lower enzyme activities.

Metabolomic selection for enhanced fruit flavor

Vincent Colantonio et al.

Summary: By analyzing the metabolomics of tomato and blueberry varieties along with consumer ratings, statistical and machine learning models were developed to predict fruit flavor. These models are expected to facilitate the incorporation of flavor as breeding targets earlier and promote the selection and release of more flavorful fruit varieties.

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals the Inducing Effect of Bacillus siamensis on Disease Resistance in Postharvest Mango Fruit

Zecheng Jiang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that B. siamensis can induce disease resistance in mango fruit by affecting multiple pathways, thus inhibiting the occurrence of postharvest anthracnose. It not only reveals the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of postharvest diseases, but also provides a biological strategy for maintaining the quality of postharvest mango fruit.

Phenotypic and Molecular Characterization of Mango Cultivars in Southwest Nigeria

Olawale Arogundade et al.

Summary: Morphological and microsatellite markers were used to analyze the genetic relatedness and diversity among mango cultivars. Significant variation was observed in eight fruit quantitative traits, and the analysis revealed the several traits that contributed the most to the observed variation. Molecular analysis showed the genetic diversity of mango cultivars, and the constructed dendrogram revealed a high level of variability and outbreeding.

Integrated Metabolome and Transcriptome Analysis of Fruit Flavor and Carotenoids Biosynthesis Differences Between Mature-Green and Tree-Ripe of cv. Golden Phoenix Mangoes (Mangifera indica L.)

Lei Peng et al.

Summary: The commodity value of fruits is directly affected by fruit flavor and color. This study identified and analyzed the metabolites, volatile organic compounds, and carotenoid contents in different stages of mango fruit ripening. The results revealed major differences in metabolic pathways during the transition from an immature stage to a ripe stage of fruit ripening, which may contribute to alterations in fruit flavor. Furthermore, the study identified several genes and transcription factors that are associated with pigment content and carotenoid accumulation in mango fruits.

Fruit quality parameters and volatile compounds from 'Palmer' mangoes with internal breakdown

Fernanda Campos Alencar Oldoni et al.

Summary: This research evaluated the ability to predict pulp internal breakdown in mangoes by analyzing physicochemical properties and volatile compounds. Principal components analysis and partial least squares discriminant analysis showed that color, firmness, and volatile compounds play an important role in providing information about the physiological changes caused by IB. By identifying volatile compounds as chemical markers, a combination of mango physical and chemical characteristics with PCA and PLS-DA successfully distinguished between healthy and IB fruits.

Supply Chain Management of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) Fruit: A Review With a Focus on Product Quality During Postharvest

Truong Dang Le et al.

Summary: Mango is a widely consumed fruit known for its excellent flavor, taste, and nutritional value. However, it is prone to perishability and significant quality losses after harvesting. Various postharvest technologies have been applied in each step of the mango supply chain to reduce these losses and improve marketability. This review explores the causes of quality losses and examines the physicochemical changes of mango fruit when postharvest technologies are applied.
