Altered resting-state networks in adolescent non-suicidal self-injury-a graph theory analysis

Ines Muerner-Lavanchy et al.

Summary: This study used graph theory to examine resting-state functional connectivity in adolescents engaging in NSSI. The findings revealed differences in global and regional network measures between the NSSI group and healthy controls, as well as associations between specific network measures and clinical characteristics in patients. Higher orbitofrontal weighted local efficiency was associated with NSSI during the past month, while lower pericalcarine nodal efficiency was associated with suicidal thoughts in the past year.

Advancing a temporal framework for understanding the biology of nonsuicidal self- injury: An expert review

Summary: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a serious clinical problem that mainly affects adolescents and young adults, arising from the intersecting effects of social, psychological, and biological mechanisms. The research distinguishes between trait and state markers in order to provide recommendations for future studies on the neurobiology of NSSI.

Cardiac autonomic functioning and clinical outcome in adolescent borderline personality disorder over two years

Christine Sigrist et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of pre-treatment autonomic nervous system functioning on clinical outcomes in adolescent BPD patients, finding that heart rate variability, regardless of early life maltreatment exposure, was a significant predictor of clinical outcomes. Irrespective of early life experiences, physiological markers of ANS functioning may be valuable in predicting treatment outcomes.

Autonomic nervous system activity and dialectical behavioral therapy outcome in adolescent borderline personality pathology

Summary: This study found that pre-treatment heart rate variability (HRV) levels in adolescents with borderline personality pathology receiving DBT-A can predict clinical improvement, but are unrelated to treatment drop-out. Changes in ANS activity during treatment are associated with changes in clinical outcome.
