Effects of Estrogen Receptor Antagonist ICI182.780 on a Rat Model of Traumatic Brain Injury

Jiangfeng Liao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a non-selective ER-alpha/beta antagonist ICI182.780 (ICI) on a rat model of TBI. The results showed that ICI may increase the cognitive deficits and hippocampal astrocytic activation after TBI.

Increased Notch2/NF-κB Signaling May Mediate the Depression Susceptibility: Evidence from Chronic Social Defeat Stress Mice and WKY Rats

Jiangfeng Liao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of disrupted Notch signaling in chronic social defeat stress mice and depression WKY rats, identifying changes associated with depression and suggesting that increased Notch2/NF-kappa B signaling in the medial prefrontal cortex may mediate depression susceptibility.

Roles of developmentally regulated KIF2A alternative isoforms in cortical neuron migration and differentiation

Cansu Akkaya et al.

Summary: KIF2A is essential for dendritic arborization and radial migration of cortical neurons during brain development. Three Kif2a isoforms were studied, with only two supporting neuronal migration. A KIF2A mutation causing brain malformations led to changes in its interactome, including depletion of mitochondrial proteins.

Acetate supplementation produces antidepressant-like effect via enhanced histone acetylation

Weibin Huang et al.

Summary: Acetate supplementation was found to significantly improve depression-like behaviors in mice and enhance dendritic branches and spine density of CA1 pyramidal neurons. Administration of acetate rescued down-regulated BDNF and TrkB levels. Chronic acetate treatment led to decreased transcription levels of HDAC2, HDAC5, HDAC7, HDAC8, increased transcription levels of HAT and P300, and boosted Ac-CoA content in the nucleus, promoting the acetylation levels of histone H3 and H4, ultimately producing antidepressant-like effects through increased histone acetylation and improved synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus.

Hippocampal proteomic analysis reveals activation of necroptosis and ferroptosis in a mouse model of chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced depression

Huan Cao et al.

Summary: This study established depression models in mice using chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) and found that neuronal loss in depression may be associated with necroptosis and ferroptosis pathways. Activation of these pathways could potentially lead to neuronal loss, providing novel targets for depression treatment.

Metabolomic changes in animal models of depression: a systematic analysis

Juncai Pu et al.

Summary: This study investigated metabolomic changes in animal models of depression, identifying decreased neurotransmitter levels and increased kynurenine metabolites in the brain, decreased amino acid levels and increased corticosterone levels in blood, and imbalanced energy metabolism and microbial metabolites in urine. The reproducibility of candidate metabolites in previous studies was found to be insufficient.

Genome-wide DNA methylation and gene expression analyses in monozygotic twins identify potential biomarkers of depression

Weijing Wang et al.

Summary: The study conducted an epigenome-wide association study in a sample of monozygotic twin pairs discordant in depression scores, identifying specific epigenetic variations related to depression. Strongly associated CpG sites were located at specific genes, with multiple ontology enrichments highlighted. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis revealed genes positively correlated with depression scores and identified common genes and enrichment terms in methylation analysis and WGCNA.
