Association of blood pressure with brain structure in youth with and without bipolar disorder

Kody G. Kennedy et al.

Summary: The study found that elevated blood pressure in youth with bipolar disorder is associated with smaller brain structure, a relationship that varies depending on structural phenotype and psychiatric diagnosis. The complex associations between blood pressure and brain structure in youth suggest the need for further research to explore the temporality of these findings and the impact of blood pressure changes on brain structure.

Cerebral Blood Flow and Core Mood Symptoms in Youth Bipolar Disorder: Evidence for Region-Symptom Specificity

Mikaela K. Dimick et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) and DSM-5 criterion A symptoms of depression and mania in youth with bipolar disorder (BD). The results showed a negative correlation between depressed mood and anhedonia and ACC and global CBF in youth with BD. No significant findings were observed for manic symptoms.

Elevated lipids are associated with reduced regional brain structure in youth with bipolar disorder

Kody G. Kennedy et al.

Summary: Abnormal blood lipid levels are associated with smaller brain structure in individuals with bipolar disorder, particularly in relation to hippocampal volume. The relationship between lipid levels and brain structure in bipolar disorder requires further prospective research to evaluate potential therapeutic effects of lipid optimization.

Aerobic exercise improves hippocampal blood flow for hypertensive Apolipoprotein E4 carriers

Carolyn S. Kaufman et al.

Summary: Aerobic exercise can significantly improve hippocampal blood flow for hypertensive APOE4 carriers, with no significant effect on non-carriers. Additionally, multiple regression analysis showed an increase in hippocampal blood flow for APOE4 carriers in response to reductions in systolic blood pressure.
