Feature-Enhanced Beamforming for Underwater 3-D Acoustic Imaging

Summary: This article proposes a feature-enhanced beamforming (FEBF) algorithm to improve the imaging quality of underwater 3-D acoustic systems. The algorithm utilizes the sparse but locally dense characteristics of objects in the angular domain in underwater 3-D imaging scenes, and employs the $l_{1}$-total variation (L1-TV) mixed norm regularization. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the proposed FEBF algorithm effectively improves the image quality, and a fast Fourier transform based acceleration strategy is also proposed for real-time imaging systems.

Retinex-inspired color correction and detail preserved fusion for underwater image enhancement
