Heat transfer enhancement of nanofluid flow at the entry region of microtubes

Hao Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the laminar nanofluid flow and convective heat transfer at the entry region of microtubes under constant wall temperature and constant heat flux boundary conditions. The results show that the entrance effect dominates pressure drop and thermal performance of the nanofluids near the entrance of the channel, while the influences of particle concentration and particle size gradually become evident as the axial distance increases.

Investigation of the entropy production rate of ferrosoferric oxide/water nanofluid in outward corrugated pipes using a two-phase mixture model

Olatomide G. Fadodun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the turbulent entropy production rate of Fe3O4/H2O nanofluid flowing through outward corrugated pipes of different profiles. The results show that trapezoidally corrugated pipes have the best heat transfer performance but the worst hydraulic performance. The concentration of nanoparticles and Reynolds number have significant effects on the entropy production rates.

Experimental investigation on heat transfer performance of solar collector with baffles and semicircular loops fins under varied air mass flow rates

Poonam Rani et al.

Summary: The experimental results of integrating baffles and fins in a solar air heater show significant improvements in heat transfer efficiency and thermal efficiency. With different air mass flow rates, the finned collector showed significantly higher temperature rise and heat transfer coefficients, making it suitable for various applications.

A comprehensive second law analysis for a heat exchanger tube equipped with the rod inserted straight and twisted tape and using water/CuO nanofluid

Toygun Dagdevir et al.

Summary: This study applied thermohydraulic performance and second law analysis to compare the performance of a heat exchanger tube with straight tape (RIST) and twisted tape (RITT) under constant heat flux and turbulent flow conditions using water/CuO nanofluid. The results showed that although RITT cases had better thermal performance, they did not significantly affect the second law efficiency due to greater frictional losses. However, the use of nanofluid significantly increased the second law efficiency.

Streamwise evolution of turbulent flow and heat transfer over channel surfaces with V ribs and V-rib-dimple compound turbulators

Yin Xie et al.

Summary: The study investigates the turbulent flow and heat transfer over channel surfaces with V ribs and V-rib-dimple compound turbulators using Scale-Adaptive Simulations (SAS). The presence of dimples significantly enhances heat transfer and depends on the channel length. The introduction of dimples expands the range of increasing regional heat transfer and reduces shear stress on the sidewall.

Toygun Dagdevir et al.

Summary: This study applied thermohydraulic performance and second law analysis using water/CuO nanofluid in a heat exchanger tube. Results showed that RITT cases outperformed RIST cases in terms of thermal performance, and the use of nanofluid had a significant impact on increasing second law efficiency.

A review of linear Fresnel primary optical design methodologies

A. E. Rungasamy et al.

Summary: Linear Fresnel collector plants are a promising technology in concentrating solar thermal field, with the main disadvantage being low optical performance of the primary collector field. Different optical loss mechanisms and models are detailed in this review, with primary collector designs categorized into peak conditions, design optimization, and novel layouts. Novel layouts utilize nonimaging optics for enhanced optical efficiency, although the cost implications of added complexity are often not fully quantified.
