Sterling insights into natural resources intensification, ageing population and globalization on environmental status in Mediterranean countries

Bright Akwasi Gyamfi et al.

Summary: This study uses quantile regression to analyze the relationship between income, natural resource rent, globalization, energy use, aging population, and carbon emissions in the Mediterranean region. The results show an inverted U-shaped connection between income and natural resource rent with CO2 emissions, affirming the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis. Additionally, globalization and energy use have a positive relationship with emissions, while aging population is negatively correlated with emissions. The study also develops a multi-stage Sustainable Development Goal framework and examines three specific SDGs in this context.

Environmental perspectives on the impacts of trade and natural resources on renewable energy utilization in Sub-Sahara Africa: Accounting for FDI, income, and urbanization trends

Liu Dingru et al.

Summary: Trade has played a crucial role in the economic prosperity of resource-rich Sub-Saharan African states, but the environmental impacts of trading activities need to be considered for achieving environmental sustainability alongside economic growth. This study examines the effects of trade and natural resources on renewable energy consumption in the region and finds that trade openness and urbanization have significant negative impacts, while income level and foreign direct investment (FDI) have significant positive effects. Policy frameworks are needed to attract FDI and promote clean energy consumption while preventing regional pollution havens.

Synthesizing urbanization and carbon emissions in Africa: how viable is environmental sustainability amid the quest for economic growth in a globalized world?

Savas Erdogan et al.

Summary: Global emission statistics show that Africa has low carbon emissions. However, the rising economic growth driven by urbanization and globalization has raised concerns about environmental risks in Africa. This study examines the impacts of urbanization and energy portfolios on the environment in 15 selected African countries. The results suggest that urbanization, economic globalization, and income levels contribute to environmental degradation, with fossil energy consumption having the most detrimental impact. The study supports the EKC conjecture and highlights the importance of investing in green energy technologies to achieve sustainable development goals.

Does it take international integration of natural resources to ascend the ladder of environmental quality in the newly industrialized countries?

Tomiwa Sunday Adebayo et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the data of ten newly industrialized countries (NICs) between 1990 and 2018. The results show that natural resource rent is detrimental to the global goal of carbon neutrality. However, globalization can moderate this effect, and there is a positive correlation between economic growth and environmental quality. Additionally, renewable energy utilization and globalization independently promote environmental quality in these countries.

Energy innovations and pathway to carbon neutrality in Finland

Andrew Adewale Alola et al.

Summary: Finland is determined to maintain its status as a low-carbon and clean energy technology country by phasing out coal energy and reducing the utilization of fossil oil by half by 2030. This study analyzes the environmental effects of Finland's disaggregated energy mix with and without environmental technologies. The results show that the deployment of environmental technologies in coal energy development leads to significant environmental costs, while innovations in oil, natural gas, and nuclear energy sources can provide environmental benefits. Without environmental technologies, the utilization of disaggregated energy forms will continue to be an environmental challenge. The study also finds that the independent deployment of environmental technologies can mitigate carbon emissions in the long run.
