Sustainable supply chain planning for biomass-based power generation with environmental risk and supply uncertainty considerations: a real-life case study

Mohammad Fattahi et al.

Summary: This paper explores the design and planning of a supply chain system for power generation from biomass. By developing a two-stage stochastic programming model, the study analyzes various factors affecting the system, including social and environmental aspects. Through social life cycle assessment (S-LCA), the social impact is quantified and sustainability is improved by reducing environmental risks. The research findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the stochastic model in assessing economic potential and guiding the planning of the supply chain system.

Do the barriers of multi-tier sustainable supply chain interact? A multi-sector examination using resource-based theory and resource-dependence theory

Pushpendu Chand et al.

Summary: Managing sustainable practices in a geographically dispersed multi-tiered supply chain can be challenging for the lead firm, which is often held responsible for any non-sustainable practices of its suppliers. Complex inter-relationships among multi-tier sustainable supply chain management barriers can hinder sustainability cascading and impact the effectiveness of strategies to overcome these barriers. Exploring the mutual interaction among these barriers is crucial to improve sustainability efforts in the supply chain.

Adoption timing of OHSAS 18001 and firm performance: An institutional theory perspective

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: The study shows that early adopters of OHSAS 18001 certification achieve greater performance gains compared to late adopters, mainly due to the influence of institutional theory on early adopters and the benefits received by late adopters only in the preparation year. Additionally, early adoption is more favorable for companies with high labor intensity and low internationalization level.

Sustainable procurement drivers for extended multi-tier context: A multi-theoretical perspective in the Danish supply chain

Devika Kannan

Summary: This study aims to analyze the drivers of sustainable procurement (SP) in a Danish extended multi-tier supply chain context, using multiple theories to categorize and prioritize the main drivers of SP. The study highlights the importance of government regulation for all supply chain entities, while also noting the lack of mandatory regulations in the private sector for implementing SP. The findings suggest that customer pressure for sustainable products is not a high priority for some entities, indicating varying levels of importance placed on different SP drivers across the supply chain.
