Optimizing Irrigation Strategies to Improve Water Use Efficiency of Cotton in Northwest China Using RZWQM2

Xiaoping Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the irrigation water use efficiency in cotton production in Northwest China using the Root Zone Water Quality Model. Simulation results showed that the Irr650 treatment achieved the highest cotton seed yield and net income.

Economic penalties associated with irrigation during high rainfall years in the southeastern United States

Yangxuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study compares cotton yield and fiber quality between dryland and irrigated plots, and finds cultivar selection affects fiber quality. Excessive irrigation may decrease yield and net returns. Therefore, implementing efficient irrigation strategies is crucial for improving cotton yield and economic returns.

A meta-analysis of the possible impact of climate change on global cotton yield based on crop simulation approaches

Na Li et al.

Summary: A systematic meta-analysis was conducted on the impact of climate change on cotton yields in major cotton-planting regions. The study found that temperature, precipitation, CO2 concentration changes, adaptive measures, study area, climate models, and climate scenarios significantly affected cotton yield change. Adapative measures and elevated CO2 concentrations could alleviate the negative impact of climate change on cotton yields.

Impact of Climate Warming on Cotton Growth and Yields in China and Pakistan: A Regional Perspective

Adnan Arshad et al.

Summary: Yearly changes in weather have significant impacts on global agriculture, especially in developing countries. Climate models predict a rise in global temperatures, which can greatly affect crop production. Through analyzing agrometeorological data and utilizing crop modeling tools, it is possible to evaluate and adapt to the warming impact on cotton production caused by climate change.

Simulated deficit irrigation and climate change effects on sunflower production in Eastern Colorado with CSM-CROPGRO-Sunflower in RZWQM2

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that sunflower can be used as an alternative crop in the traditional wheat-fallow rotation in the Great Plains of the USA. Few studies have quantified sunflower productivity and water productivity under semi-arid conditions and projected climate change. Results demonstrate that scheduling irrigations based on 60% of crop evapotranspiration was the best choice for sunflower water productivity in eastern Colorado.

Impact of climate change and crop management on cotton phenology based on statistical analysis in the main-cotton-planting areas of China

Na Li et al.

Summary: Cotton phenological stages in general showed an advancing trend, while sowing and maturity dates were delayed; precipitation had a significant impact on the lengths of phenological stages, while sunshine duration and temperature had a smaller impact; the influence of climate change on cotton phenology was weaker, and planting longer-duration cotton varieties may be a better choice for adapting to climate change.

Effects of residue removal and tillage on greenhouse gas emissions in continuous corn systems as simulated with RZWQM2

Haomiao Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different residue and tillage practices on soil CO2 and N2O emissions using the Root Zone Water Quality Model (RZWQM2). The results showed that residue and tillage practices had cumulative effects on CO2 emissions over the long term, but not on N2O emissions. The study demonstrated that the RZWQM2 is a valuable tool for evaluating the long-term impacts of conservation practices on CO2 and N2O emissions.
