Drought, Low Nitrogen Stress, and Ultraviolet-B Radiation Effects on Growth, Development, and Physiology of Sweetpotato Cultivars during Early Season

Purushothaman Ramamoorthy et al.

Summary: Drought, UV-B, and nitrogen stress have significant impacts on sweetpotato productivity. This study investigated the phenotypes and their association with storage root number in 10 sweetpotato cultivars under drought, UV-B, and low-nitrogen conditions. The research found that all three stress factors caused significant changes in physiological and root- and shoot-related traits of sweetpotato plants.

Effect of Regulated Deficit Irrigation on Agronomic Parameters of Three Plum Cultivars (Prunus salicina L.) under Semi-Arid Climate Conditions

Hichem Hajlaoui et al.

Summary: Regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) strategies are important for saving irrigation water. The effects of RDI on the growth, photosynthesis, fruit yield, and quality traits of three plum cultivars in Central Tunisia were assessed. Results showed that the three cultivars had varying degrees of response time to drought stress, with a slight decrease in growth and fruit weight but improved soluble solid content and firmness.

Drought-induced proline is mainly synthesized in leaves and to roots in watermelon under water deficit

Zhongyuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that proline accumulates in the roots, stems, and leaves of watermelon plants under drought stress. The ClP5CS1 gene plays a major role in proline synthesis in leaves via the Glu pathway. Over-expression of ClP5CS genes enhances drought tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis lines. Proline is synthesized in leaves and transported to roots in watermelon under drought stress. Transcriptome analysis identifies differentially expressed genes involved in proline metabolism.

Effect of drought on photosynthesis, total antioxidant capacity, bioactive component accumulation, and the transcriptome of Atractylodes lancea

Aqin Zhang et al.

Summary: Drought stress inhibits photosynthesis, impairs stress tolerance by inhibiting antioxidative enzymes, and hinders the biosynthesis of bioactive components in Atractylodes lancea. These negative impacts affect the quality formation of A. lancea.
