Three-Dimensional Osteogenic Differentiation of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells Promotes Matrix Metallopeptidase 13 (MMP13) Expression in Type I Collagen Hydrogels

Luis Oliveros Anerillas et al.

Summary: Autologous bone transplantation is a common method for reconstructing large bone defects, but has limitations. This study explores the benefits of culturing bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in 3D compared to traditional 2D culture. Findings suggest that type I collagen gels are suitable for 3D osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs, potentially enhancing the production of tissue-engineered constructs for bone defect treatment.

Relevance of Notch Signaling for Bone Metabolism and Regeneration

Tobias M. Ballhause et al.

Summary: Notch1-4 receptors and their signaling pathways are crucial in cell fate decision by coordinating cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis, with differential expression and activation observed in various organs and tissues. In bone, Notch receptors control remodeling and regeneration, with distinct expression and function depending on differentiation stages. The crosstalk between Notch signaling and other pathways in bone turnover, including Wnt/beta-catenin, BMP and RANKL/OPG, is outlined.

Dietary Germinated Paddy Rice and Stocking Density Affect Egg Performance, Serum Biochemical Properties, and Proteomic and Transcriptomic Response of Laying Hens Exposed to Chronic Heat Stress

Tossaporn Incharoen et al.

Summary: Germinated paddy rice (GPR) was found to be a potential alternative feed source for poultry under stocking density and heat stress issues. A study on laying hens showed that high stocking density led to decreased feed intake and egg production, as well as increased levels of GLU, P, CORT, among others. Different levels of dietary GPR significantly impacted various parameters, with proteomic analysis identifying 19 proteins enriched in different conditions. The proteins identified could serve as potential biomarkers for further research.
