Evidence on antimicrobial activity of essential oils and herbal extracts against Yersinia enterocolitica-A review

Andrea Durofil et al.

Summary: This study reviewed the research done by 53 researchers on plant extracts as anti-Yersinia additives, finding that essential oils from plants like oregano and rosemary, as well as some herbal extracts, show anti-Yersinia activity. The families Lamiaceae and Lauracea were identified as the most significant ones with anti-Yersinia activity.

Influence of abiotic factors (water activity and temperature) on growth and aflatoxin production by Aspergillus flavus in a chickpea-based medium

Cindy Johana Romero Donato et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of water activity, temperature, and incubation time on the mycelial growth and aflatoxin production of three Aspergillus flavus strains in a chickpea-based medium. The results showed that aflatoxin concentrations varied considerably depending on the interactions of water activity and temperature.

Prevalence, bio-serotype, antibiotic susceptibility and genotype of Yersinia enterocolitica and other Yersinia species isolated from retail and processed meats in Shaanxi Province, China

Zexun Lu et al.

Summary: This study characterized the prevalence and characteristics of Yersinia enterocolitica and other Yersinia spp. in retail and processed meats in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, China. The study found that Y. enterocolitica was the most prevalent species, particularly the bio-serotype 1A/nt strains. The isolates showed high resistance to multiple antibiotics. Genetic homology analysis indicated low similarity between Yersinia isolates from different meat sources.

GC-MS Metabolomics profiling and HR-APCI-MS characterization of potential anticancer compounds and antimicrobial activities of extracts from Picrorhiza kurroa roots

Qudsia Tabassam et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the pharmacological potential and phytochemical profiling of Picrorhiza kurroa extracts against mammalian cancer cell lines and pathogenic microbes. The bioactive extracts showed antimicrobial and antifungal activities, with the n-hexane and aqueous dichloromethane extracts exhibiting high cytotoxicity against various cancer cell lines. Additionally, the purified compound Dihydromikanolide from methanolic extract showed potential as an anticancer agent against ovarian cancer cells.

Assessment of Anti-Inflammatory and Antimicrobial Potential of Ethanolic Extract of Woodfordia fruticosa Flowers: GC-MS Analysis

Agnieszka Najda et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity of ethanolic extract of Woodfordia fruticosa flowers, which was rich in phenolic, flavonoid, and ascorbic acid. The extract showed significant antimicrobial efficacy against pathogenic bacteria and fungi, as well as higher anti-inflammatory activity. This suggests that the ethanolic extract of Woodfordia fruticosa flowers could be a valuable source of phenols for manufacturing value-added food products.
