In Silico Analysis of P450s and Their Role in Secondary Metabolism in the Bacterial Class Gammaproteobacteria

Ntombizethu Nokuphiwa Msomi et al.

Summary: The impact of lifestyle on shaping the genome content of different bacterial species in terms of cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs/P450s) varies, with only a few Gammaproteobacterial species showing P450 enzymes involved in secondary metabolism. Lifestyle influences the diversity and quantity of P450 enzymes in bacteria, as observed in this comprehensive analysis of P450s in Gammaproteobacteria.

Ancient Bacterial Class Alphaproteobacteria Cytochrome P450 Monooxygenases Can Be Found in Other Bacterial Species

Nomfundo Nzuza et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of P450s in the ancient group of alphaproteobacterial species, revealing that alphaproteobacterial species have the highest average number of P450s compared to Firmicutes and cyanobacterial species. It also shows that only a small percentage of alphaproteobacterial species' P450s are involved in secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters, indicating a different evolutionary pathway compared to other bacterial species. Additionally, the study identifies the presence of novel P450 families and predicts cholesterol side-chain oxidation capability in alphaproteobacterial species.
