Effect of palmyra sprout fiber and biosilica on mechanical, wear, thermal and hydrophobic behavior of epoxy resin composite

Hassan Alshahrani et al.

Summary: In this study, natural fiber epoxy composites were prepared using palmyra sprout fiber and red matta rice husk ash(RHA) biosilica. The mechanical, wear resistance, thermal stability, and water absorption behavior of the obtained composites were investigated. The results showed that the addition of 3 vol.% of biosilica and 30 vol.% of fiber resulted in the highest tensile and flexural strength. The composites also exhibited improved hardness, impact resistance, and thermal stability. The water absorption was marginally affected by the addition of reinforcement. These mechanically improved, wear resistible, and thermally stable natural composites can find applications in various fields.

Bisphenol A and its analogues in outdoor and indoor air: Properties, sources and global levels

Tijana Vasiljevic et al.

Summary: BPA and its analogues are widely used in plastic synthesis, potentially disrupting the hormonal structure of living organisms. Reports on BPA levels in air are limited, mainly due to anthropogenic activities. China reported the highest outdoor air levels of BPA near a low-tech e-waste recycling site, and indoor dust also revealed bisphenol analogues used in BPA-free products.

Enhanced dye-removal performance of Cu-TiO2-fly ash composite by optimized adsorption and photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation

Devagi Kanakaraju et al.

Summary: The Cu/TiO2/FA composite was optimized for the removal of the model dye pollutant methyl orange under visible light irradiation using response surface methodology and Box-Behnken experimental design. The study considered three independent variables and achieved a 99.91% removal rate under the optimal operating conditions. The results support the hypothesis of a combined and synergic adsorption-photocatalytic degradation process for pollutant removal.

Diatom Biosilica Doped with Palladium(II) Chloride Nanoparticles as New Efficient Photocatalysts for Methyl Orange Degradation

Myroslav Sprynskyy et al.

Summary: A new catalyst based on biosilica doped with palladium(II) chloride nanoparticles was prepared and tested for efficient degradation of methyl orange in water solution under UV light excitation. The photocatalyst exhibited excellent photodegradation activity toward MO degradation under UV light irradiation, showing rapid photocatalytic degradation within one minute with an efficiency reaching over 98% after 75 min. The proposed mechanism of photodegradation involves the generation of strongly oxidizing species such as HO· and O2·- radicals from diatom biosilica under the influence of UV light excitation.
