FTIR differentiation based on genomic DNA for species identification of Shigella isolates from stool samples

Babak Pakbin et al.

Summary: The study developed a sensitive and specific method using FTIR, PCA, and HCA assays to differentiate four species of Shigella isolates from stool samples. The FTIR method showed distinct spectra for each species, with high specificity and sensitivity for identifying and differentiating all species in the samples.

Cationic Peptides and Their Cu(II) and Ni(II) Complexes: Coordination and Biological Characteristics

Aleksandra Kotynia et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial peptides are promising compounds for infection treatment. Metal ions play a crucial role in activating these peptides. This study focused on new pseudopeptides and their coordination behavior with Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions, showing potential biological activity and metal ion-binding capabilities. The cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activities of these compounds and their complexes were evaluated, indicating promising results.

Antimicrobial Peptides: A Potent Alternative to Antibiotics

Mariam Rima et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial peptides are a promising alternative to antibiotics for treating bacterial infections, especially those caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens. They show various activity spectra and mechanisms of actions, and can be used synergistically against ESKAPE bacteria, particularly in biofilm treatments. Challenges and limitations in their therapeutic applications are highlighted, with potential solutions being evaluated to determine if antimicrobial peptides could potentially replace antibiotics in the future.
