Transcriptome profiling of Arabidopsis thaliana roots in response to allelopathic effects of Conyza canadensis

Haiyan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the physiological and molecular responses of native Arabidopsis thaliana roots to allelopathy from invasive Conyza canadensis, revealing significant effects on root growth, weakened root tip activity, ROS accumulation, and differential expression of genes related to cell wall formation, stress response, and signal transduction. Moreover, it found that genes associated with nutrient transport and stress response were down-regulated, while transcription factors associated with plant stress were up-regulated, indicating a complex molecular response to allelopathy.

Comparative analysis on metabolites and gene expression difference of various allelopathic potential rice under weed stress

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of herbicide treatment on gene expression and metabolites in two types of rice: allelopathic and non-allelopathic. The results showed that under herbicide stress, the allelopathic rice had a stronger inhibition effect on barnyard grass, and the phenolic acid extracts in its rhizosphere soil showed higher inhibition rates. Additionally, certain genes related to phenolic acid metabolism were upregulated in the leaves and roots of the allelopathic rice under weed stress.

Transcriptional and proteomic insights into phytotoxic activity of interspecific potato hybrids with low glycoalkaloid contents

Katarzyna Szajko et al.

Summary: The presence of alpha-solasonine and alpha-solamargine in potato leaf extracts corresponded to the high phytotoxic potential of the extracts. Among the differentially expressed genes between potato leaf bulks with high and low phytotoxic potential, the most upregulated transcripts in the sample of high phytotoxic potential were anthocyanin 5-aromatic acyltransferase-like and subtilisin-like protease. The most downregulated genes were carbonic anhydrase chloroplastic-like and miraculin-like.

Characterization of the Brassica napus Flavonol Synthase Gene Family Reveals Bifunctional Flavonol Synthases

Hanna Marie Schilbert et al.

Summary: It was found that there are two homologous genes in the flavonol synthase gene family of B. napus, which have dual enzyme activity and play important roles in the accumulation of flavonols in seeds.

ROS Metabolism Perturbation as an Element of Mode of Action of Allelochemicals

Pawel Staszek et al.

Summary: Plants' allelopathic interactions play a crucial role in shaping plant communities, with a lack of data on the molecular mode of action of allelotoxins. The development of -omic techniques provides an opportunity to study ROS-dependent changes induced by allelochemicals, highlighting the importance of ROS metabolism as an indirect mode of action of allelochemicals.

Interspecific variations in the habitats of Rhus tripartitum L. populations in Saudi Arabia leading to changes in morphological traits and allelopathic activity

Amal Saleh Altamimi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the variations in soil composition, fruit and seed parameters, and allelopathic activities of Rhus tripartita populations, revealing significant differences among populations. The potential use of Rhus tripartita extracts as bioherbicide and the need for further research on their essential oil and economic applications on a large scale are highlighted.
