Quercetin induces tongue squamous cell carcinoma cell apoptosis via the JNK activation-regulated ERK/GSK-3α/β-mediated mitochondria-dependent apoptotic signaling pathway

Chun-Fa Huang et al.

Summary: Quercetin induces apoptosis in tongue squamous cell carcinoma cells possibly through the JNK-activation-regulated ERK1/2 and GSK3-alpha/beta-mediated mitochondria-dependent apoptotic signaling pathway.

Methylmercury Induces Mitochondria- and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-Dependent Pancreatic β-Cell Apoptosis via an Oxidative Stress-Mediated JNK Signaling Pathway

Ching-Yao Yang et al.

Summary: Methylmercury exposure leads to cytotoxicity in pancreatic beta-cells, affecting insulin secretion and cell viability. The mechanism involves activation of mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress pathways, resulting in apoptosis. Additionally, methylmercury induces JNK activation and reactive oxygen species generation, exacerbating cell damage and insulin secretion dysfunction.

Cordycepin Reverses Cisplatin Resistance in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer by Activating AMPK and Inhibiting AKT Signaling Pathway

Xiao-Zhong Liao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the combination of cordycepin (Cor) and cisplatin (DDP) has a synergistic effect on inhibiting proliferation and promoting apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. The synergistic actions are associated with the activation of AMPK and inhibition of the AKT pathway. This combination therapy may offer a new therapeutic option for DDP-resistant NSCLC.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

The Impact of Histopathological Features on the Prognosis of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Comprehensive Review and Meta-Analysis

Eder da Silva Dolens et al.

Summary: The study confirmed the prognostic potential of histopathological features such as DOI and ENE for OSCC, as well as highlighted the importance of tumor budding and tumor-stroma ratio in predicting survival of OSCC patients. Further studies are recommended to fill in the gaps in the literature regarding the relevance of histopathological markers for OSCC prognosis.

AMPK activation by ASP4132 inhibits non-small cell lung cancer cell growth

Ying-chen Xia et al.

Summary: Activation of AMPK by ASP4132 effectively inhibits NSCLC cell growth in vitro and in vivo, inducing apoptosis, causing mitochondrial dysfunction and autophagy. AMPK activation also leads to downstream events including mTORC1 inhibition, receptor tyrosine kinase degradation, Akt inhibition, and programmed necrosis.
