MUC5B Promoter Polymorphism and Survival in Indian Patients With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Sahajal Dhooria et al.

Summary: This study is a prospective observational study that aimed to investigate the relationship between the MUC5B promoter SNP rs35705950 and IPF, as well as its impact on the prognosis of IPF patients. IPF patients who met the standard diagnostic criteria were included as the case group, and control subjects were recruited from hospital staff and patients' companions. By performing DNA sequencing and statistical analysis on the subjects, the study provides evidence for the difference in the genotype proportion of MUC5B promoter SNP rs35705950 between IPF and control groups, and a possible association of this SNP with the survival rate of IPF patients.

Predictive value of common genetic variants in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis survival

Patricia Caetano Mota et al.

Summary: In this study, the association between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of certain candidate genes was investigated. The MUC5B rs35705950 SNP was found to be significantly associated with IPF susceptibility, while the MUC5B-TOLLIP T-C-T-C haplotype was associated with improved survival in IPF patients. These findings could be valuable for prognosis and stratification of IPF patients.

Effect of genotype on the disease course in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis despite antifibrotic treatment

Summary: This study investigated the effects of IL-4 and TOLLIP gene variants on the course of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The results suggest that IL-4 and TOLLIP gene polymorphisms may impact disease outcomes in IPF patients, but are not drivers of the disease.

Summary: This study found the minor allele of MUC5B rs35705950 to be associated with IPF; the minor allele of TOLLIP rs5743890 was linked to worse survival and more rapid disease progression; while the minor allele of TOLLIP rs3750920 showed no association with disease progression or AE.

Summary: In IPF patients receiving antifibrotic treatment, carriage of the MUC5B rs35705950 T allele is associated with longer survival, demonstrating the clinical significance of MUC5B genetic data in prognosis assessment.
