B3GNT3 as a prognostic biomarker and correlation with immune cell infiltration in lung adenocarcinoma

Yuanzhou Wu et al.

Summary: B3GNT3 is highly expressed in LUAD tissues compared to normal lung tissues, and is associated with immune cell infiltration and overall survival of LUAD patients. Knockdown of B3GNT3 inhibits LUAD cell viability, cloning ability, and invasion, showing its potential as a prognostic and diagnostic biomarker for LUAD.

State-of-the-Art Molecular Oncology of Lung Cancer in Taiwan

Yung-Hung Luo et al.

Summary: Lung cancer is a life-threatening malignancy that causes significant healthcare burdens in Taiwan and worldwide. The 5-year survival rate for Taiwanese patients is unsatisfactorily low and efforts are being made to improve it. The molecular epidemiology of lung cancer in Taiwan has revealed the involvement of the NRF2 antioxidant mechanism in tumor progression. Different signaling pathways and the adaptive immune system are associated with tumor stages. Clustering analysis based on protein abundance has identified three patient subgroups with distinct characteristics. Targeted therapies, such as EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors and ALK inhibitors, have shown promising results in patients with specific mutations. Understanding the molecular profile of lung cancer is crucial for personalized treatment decisions and patient care.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
