Study of high temperature stress induced damage and recovery in photosystem II (PSII) and photosystem I (PSI) in Spinach leaves (Spinacia oleracia)

Divya Agrawal et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism by which plants dissipate excess photon energy during high temperature stress by measuring electron transfer rates, redox state, and recovery capacity of PS II and PS I. Results showed sensitivity of PS II to initial heat treatment time at 40 degrees C, with impact on energy dissipation and quantum yield. PS I stability decreased with increasing heat treatment time, while cyclic electron flow played a role in protecting PS I from over-reduction under heat stress. Recovery of both PS II and PS I was observed in dark and light conditions, with partial recovery in 10 minutes and slight recovery in 20 minutes.

The Role of Plant-Associated Bacteria, Fungi, and Viruses in Drought Stress Mitigation

Mousami Poudel et al.

Summary: Plant-associated microorganisms can enhance plant resistance to drought through various mechanisms, including osmotic adjustment, antioxidant enzyme enhancement, and modification in phytohormonal levels. Microbial volatile organic compounds and induction of stress-responsive genes also play crucial roles in acquiring drought tolerance.

Optimizing nitrogen distribution in source-sink organs at heading for high grain yield and high nitrogen use efficiency in Japonica rice

Haibing He et al.

Summary: The yield and nitrogen-use efficiency of Japonica rice are influenced by the size of source (dry matter) and sink (spikelets per unit area), as well as nitrogen distribution traits between source and sink organs at heading. Experiments showed that nitrogen input affects the nitrogen content ratios of source organs to panicle organ, impacting yield and nitrogen-use efficiency. Factors such as nitrogen concentration in leaf organ and nitrogen content distributed from the stem organ per spikelet play a role in regulating nitrogen partial factor productivity and nitrogen agronomic efficiency.
