Structural Investigation and Molecular Modeling Studies of Strobilurin-Based Fungicides Active against the Rice Blast Pathogen Pyricularia oryzae

Andrea Kunova et al.

Summary: The study identified new fungicides with good activity against Pyricularia oryzae, and in some cases, against strobilurin-resistant strains as well. The results shed light on the key recognition determinants of strobilurin-like derivatives in the cytochrome bc1 active site, guiding the rational design of new fungicides to overcome resistance caused by the G143A mutation in the rice blast pathogen.

First report of QoI resistance in Italian population of Pyricularia oryzae

Daniele Tenni et al.

Summary: Resistance to quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) fungicides, particularly azoxystrobin, has been detected in Italian rice blast populations isolated from various provinces including Pavia, Novara, and Vercelli. The resistant isolates showed high levels of resistance with EC50 values greater than 100 mg/l and resistance factors exceeding 500, due to the mutation of glycine to alanine at the 143 codon position (G143A) in the cytochrome b gene. This highlights the need for proper anti-resistance strategies in Italian rice production.
