R gene triplication confers European fodder turnip with improved clubroot resistance

Zhiquan Yang et al.

Summary: This study sequenced the genome of European fodder turnip ECD04 and identified 978 candidate R genes. The published clubroot resistance (CR) loci were mapped to the ECD04 genome, leading to the identification of 62 candidate CR genes. Functional validation was conducted on two CR genes, which were found to have originated from a common ancestor. The study also proposed a hypothesis for the evolution of CR genes.

Control Strategies of Clubroot Disease Caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae

Christine Struck et al.

Summary: Clubroot disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae is a major disease of cruciferous crops worldwide. Its spread is influenced by host plant cultivation, temperature, and water availability. Global changes, such as trade and climate change, have contributed to the increased occurrence of clubroot disease. Effective control methods include crop rotation, liming of contaminated soils, and resistant host plants, while alternative control options are being explored.

Z. Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the genetic and molecular basis of clubroot resistance in canola, finding two major quantitative trait loci (QTL) that confer resistance to specific pathotypes. The altered expression of sugar transporter genes and TIR-NB-LRR genes are identified as potential factors underlying the resistance. Additionally, SNP-based molecular markers are developed for breeding purposes.
