The time of onset of intradialytic hypotension during a hemodialysis session associates with clinical parameters and mortality

David F. Keane et al.

Summary: Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is a common complication during hemodialysis, with an incidence of 12% and a median time interval of 120-149 minutes. There was no significant change in IDH incidence across hemodialysis intervals. Blood volume and ultrafiltration volume were not associated with IDH in the first 90 minutes, but were afterwards. Central venous oxygen saturation was consistently associated with IDH throughout hemodialysis. Patients prone to early IDH had worse survival compared to late episodes.
