Simultaneous thermodynamic and economic enhancement of heat pumps based on a new method for avoidable irreversibility assessment

Volodymyr Voloshchuk et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new method to enhance the thermodynamic and economic performance of air-source and water-source heat pumps simultaneously. It avoids the need for ideal process introduction and estimates the avoidable parts of exergy destruction and investment expenditures. The study shows that minimizing irreversibilities in the condenser and evaporator can improve both thermodynamic and economic performance under specific operating conditions.

A study on heating and cooling requirements for green buildings and refugee settlements

Selen Cekinir et al.

Summary: This study comparatively examines three different geothermal-based systems and uses the analytical hierarchy process to find the best option for refugee settlements. From the perspective of environmental impact, performance, economy, and health, the Earth air heat exchanger (EAHE), vertical ground source heat pump (VGSHP), and horizontal ground source heat pump (HGSHP) are evaluated. It is concluded that EAHE is the optimal choice for refugee settlements, and it is also a healthier option during the COVID-19 pandemic.
