Ag/Ga-doped ZnO/pyramidal silicon as a multifunctional surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrate

Tung-Hao Chang et al.

Summary: A high-performance SERS-active substrate with Ag nanoparticles deposited on pyramidal silicon with Ga-doped ZnO nanoneedles has been fabricated, showing remarkable SERS enhancement, good reproducibility, and long-term stability. The Ag/Ga-doped ZnO/pyramidal silicon geometry provides more hot spots and surface-active sites, making it superior to Ag/pyramidal silicon and Ag/silicon substrates for detecting drugs with low detection limits.

WS2/In2S3 composite photocatalyst for photocatalytic H2 generation and pollutant degradation

Bingrong Guo et al.

Summary: The recombination of photocarriers is a crucial factor affecting the performance of photocatalysts. The design of heterojunction photocatalysts can effectively inhibit the recombination by enhancing photocarrier separation and transport. In this study, a Z-scheme WS2/In2S3 photocatalyst with a bi-layered sheet-like structure was synthesized. The unique architecture of this photocatalyst reduced the charge transfer distance and provided more surface area, promoting the photocatalytic reaction. The Z-scheme structure effectively separated and retained the strong redox capability of the photocarriers, resulting in remarkable photocatalytic activity for H-2 generation and tetracycline hydrochloride degradation. The Z-scheme WS2/In2S3 composite showed the highest H-2 generation rate of 592.9 mu mol g(-1) h(-1) and the best degradation efficiency of 90% within 60 min. The bi-layered Z-scheme photocatalyst also demonstrated excellent stability and recyclability.

High-efficiency photocatalytic decomposition of toluene over defective InOOH: Promotive role of oxygen vacancies in ring opening process

Jiarui Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of oxygen vacancies (OVs) on the photocatalytic oxidation and ring opening of toluene by introducing OVs into indium oxyhydroxide. Results show that OVs enhance light absorption and charge carrier separation, lower the reaction energy barrier, and increase the reaction rates, ultimately enhancing the photocatalytic performance. This work provides insights into oxygen vacancy engineering as a new strategy to improve the photocatalytic selectivity and activity for VOC degradation.

Surfactant- and template-free hydrothermal assembly of Cu2O visible light photocatalysts for trimethoprim degradation

Karthikeyan Sekar et al.

Summary: A surfactant-free, low temperature hydrothermal synthesis of Cu2O nanostructures was demonstrated for photocatalytic degradation of environmental xenobiotic trimethoprim (TMP). Photophysical properties of different size and shape Cu2O nanostructures were determined, with optimum photoactivity observed for hierarchical Cu2O nanostructures comprising 11 nm crystallites nucleated as 50-80 nm particles. The specific activity of Cu2O nanostructures for TMP degradation was comparable to previous reports, with the process driven by photogenerated hydroxyl radicals.
