Techno-economic analysis of photovoltaic-hydrogen refueling station case study: A transport company Tunis-Tunisia

El Manaa Barhoumi et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the future development of green hydrogen in Tunisia and provides an economic assessment of a photovoltaic hydrogen refueling station. With high PV potential, Tunisia can effectively use solar energy as an alternative source. However, due to regulations and connection issues, the production of electricity from renewable sources is still low. Therefore, using solar energy to produce hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles is a promising solution to boost the country's development, reduce hydrocarbon fuel consumption, and protect the environment.

Hydrogen station evolution towards a poly-generation energy system

Matteo Genovese et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes an innovative energy system based on a hydrogen station, which serves as the core of a smart energy production center and incorporates various hydrogen technologies nearby. A case study is conducted on a station with a daily hydrogen production capacity of 360 kg, located near a university campus. The study includes a hydrogen mobility network consisting of fuel cell vehicles, bicycles, and forklifts. The system also meets the power and heat demand of a student housing building on the campus, and its performance is evaluated through technical and economic analyses.

Analysis of customer queuing at hydrogen stations

Tim Brown et al.

Summary: This analysis examines the service rates at a heavily used retail hydrogen station in California, aiming to understand how station capacity affects customer wait times. The data collected from thousands of hydrogen refuelings provides insights into station and network capacity, suggesting that larger, multi-position stations would serve customers significantly better than smaller, one position stations.

Single-tank storage versus multi-tank cascade system in hydrogen refueling stations for fuel cell buses

Roberta Caponi et al.

Summary: Many European countries are investing in fuel cell bus technology. This study analyzes the refueling operations of tank-to-tank fuel cell buses and compares the single-tank storage with a multi-tank cascade system. The cascade system proves to have advantages in terms of refueling efficiency and energy consumption, and a cost-effectiveness evaluation is conducted.

Multi-period planning of hydrogen refuelling stations using flow data: A case study for Istanbul

Ebru Gecici et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the number and location of hydrogen refuelling stations (HRSs) to be operated in Istanbul by using a multi-period p-median model, considering the adaptation to hydrogen technology for each district of the city. The results show that ignoring the transition to adopting hydrogen technology may result in significant loss, and the HRSs have a cluster-like structure.

Analyzing the levelized cost of hydrogen in refueling stations with on-site hydrogen production via water electrolysis in the Italian scenario

M. Minutillo et al.

Summary: The study focused on the techno-economic assessment of on-site hydrogen refueling stations using PV plants integrated with electrolysis units in the Italian scenario. It found that the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) is influenced by investment costs, operational and maintenance costs, and electricity prices. The results showed that the LCOH values increase proportionally with changes in electricity mix and hydrogen production capacity.

Effects of pressure levels in three-cascade storage system on the overall energy consumption in the hydrogen refueling station

Lei Xiao et al.

Summary: The cascade storage system has lower energy consumption compared to the one-buffer system, resulting in approximately 34% energy savings. Total energy consumption in the three-cascade storage system increases nearly linearly with the high-pressure tank pressure, while showing concave curve trends with the increase of low-pressure and medium-pressure levels. The charging sequence from low-pressure to high-pressure tanks decreases total operation energy consumption.
