Nickel.cobalt bimetallic catalysts prepared from hydrotalcite-like compounds for dry reforming of methane

Xiaoxuan Duan et al.

Summary: NieCo/Mg(Al)O alloy catalysts with different Co/Ni molar ratios were prepared from Ni-and Co-substituted Mg-Al hydrotalcite-like compounds as precursors. These catalysts showed high activity and stability in dry reforming of methane, effectively inhibiting methane decomposition and coke deposition. Alloying Ni with Co promoted CO2 adsorption/activation and the elimination of carbon species, resulting in improved coke resistance. Hydrotalcite-derived Ni-Co/Mg(Al)O catalysts exhibited better catalytic performance compared to other Ni-Co catalysts.

System-friendly process design: Optimizing blue hydrogen production for future energy systems

Schalk Cloete et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the effects of significant advances in CO2 capture and storage (CCS) technologies on future energy systems, and finds that CCS-enabled pathways offer benefits in the hydrogen sector, including reducing hydrogen prices and enabling negative CO2 emissions. Advanced blue hydrogen technologies can also reduce total system costs and increase efficiencies. Co-gasification of coal and biomass is identified as an important enabler of these results. The study suggests that CCS decarbonization pathways can incorporate substantial shares of renewable energy to reduce fossil fuel dependence and increase system resilience.

The future of hydrogen energy: Bio-hydrogen production technology

Xianxian Xu et al.

Summary: The widespread use of non-renewable energy has led to serious environmental problems. Hydrogen, as a carbon-free fuel, is considered the most promising energy carrier for the future. However, the current production of hydrogen is dominated by fossil-based techniques, which have low conversion efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, finding green and sustainable production routes for hydrogen with low energy consumption and cost is crucial. Bio-hydrogen production technologies have environmental advantages and broad prospects, with each technique having its own advantages, challenges, and applicability.
